Multidisciplinary artist and VJ, Zach Walker is co-artistic director of make.AMPLIFY with award-winning Canadian choreographer and dancer Jennifer Irons. Working together, they create site-specific installations and interactive performances internationally that engage, challenge and surprise. For the past four years Walker has also been collaborating with famed beatboxer Reeps One to develop a project called the Organic Electronics show.
For Splice Festival, Walker will explain and showcase his Visualizing Vibrations Sculpture, which was originally commissioned by Guerilla Science through their work with the Mathematical Science Research Institute in Berkeley, California. The VVS is an interactive audio-visual sculpture that visualizes sound and was created to engage the public with maths, science and art at festivals, museums and exhibitions worldwide. It is in fact a very simple analogue creation using water, a speaker, a video camera and a light. Workshop participants will see what sound looks like and play with non-newtonian fluid (corn starch and water!) which – in cymatics fashion – comes to life on the surface of the speaker!
